Biography:
I attribute my love of basket weaving to two wonderful teachers, Margi Thompson, who gave me a solid foundation in traditional basketry and Patricia Yunkes, who introduced me to and encouraged me to experiment with natural materials. The last five years have been devoted to creating a body of work in which functional gives way to the purely aesthetic. I am a member of several art organizations, most recently the Craftsmen’s Guild and AAP, and have exhibited locally and regionally.

Artist Statement:
I love to basket weave, not only for the tranquility it affords me, but because of how the vessel materializes through me. The process of creating, for me, is largely subliminal. Because the pieces on which I try to impose my wishes often end up being the ones with which I am least satisfied, I am learning to “listen” to the piece. I find, more and more, that I am being led, and, at some point, I relinquish control to the piece itself. I think of each vessel as a myth or tale originating from some unintelligible part of myself and, through the vessel, hope to convey some sense of its mystery to the viewer.
